"In high school Sunday school class, the teacher asked 'Why are you a Christian?'. I said 'So you go to heaven when you die.' He asked 'So your Christianity is just an insurance policy?' About the same time my biology teacher started the year saying 'I am a practicing Catholic but I am going to teach the theory of evolution. I don't think they are that far apart. So the question I would ask is how long was a day?' And he went on to teach Darwin's theory. I realized that I was part of the natural world and I gave no honor to Christianity by using it as an insurance policy. [My first convention was] a life altering event. There were so many others who thought like me."
