“The one thing we did do immediately was to investigate transplants. We had to be interviewed by their social worker. That’s part of every transplantation. You get approved two ways. You get approved medically, that you’re eligible for a transplant – really, you get approved socially. Will you be able to maintain the responsibility to take care of a child who has lots of medical appointments, very large medical bills and medication on a regular basis? Can you handle the impact it’ll have on your other children, the impact it’ll have on your life? Are you emotionally, financially, really in every way, ready to deal with that? They want to know you can handle this. They know they have the technology there to do the transplant. The success rate is terrific. They want to know you can handle this. Once you start you can’t go back.”

– Craig, father
